A one of a kind guidebook with over 350 photos which also comes with a free e-book with color photos. The pictures in the guide book and the e-book were very helpful. I wish I had this book when I went to Bogota. com User, June 17, 2009. The first time I went to Bogota I stayed at a crap hotel that was in one of the other popular guidebooks that, of course, had no pictures of hotels. I wish I had this book then.

This book is the biggest waste of money for a travel book.
Here is what's in the book : hundreds of pages of pictures of hotels and restaurants, less than 10 pages of info about Bogota.
Here is what's NOT in the book: ANY info about history, geography, people, culture of the city.
I have never written a review before but I was so upset that this sort of trash can be promoted as a travel guide I felt I had to warn people. [...] has much better and current reviews of hotels. I have no idea who would need this book.

This is a self published book that needs some major editing. If you can ignore the run-on sentences, unnecessarily frequent words in all-caps, ridiculous amount of exclamation points, and the authors tirelessly repetitive explanations of why he wrote the book then this book actually has really good information about Colombia. It has really good and honest information about Colombia's safety and has a lot of good information about restaurants, hotels, transportation etc.

I was looking for a good book to give me something more than the typical guide book. It's clear that the author put a lot of effort into it but in the end I found my experience to be rather contradictory to that described by the author. I was expecting this book to offer something a bit deeper than where to stay and eat.

What a horrible travel book. It offers virtually no valuable information other than crappy black and white photos of hotels and restaurants. The book is completely useless! So much so that I am actually taking time to warn otherts (this is the first product for which I've left a review).

I just got back from a visit to Bogota, and the guide was invaluable. While my husband had to work, I was free to sightsee and shop, and explore Colombian cuisine. The guide helped me establish where I wanted to go, how to get there, and what precautions were necessary to take. Of course, knowing how to speak Spanish was very helpful (I am far from fluent, but with a little help from Rosetta Stone, and my English-Spanish dictionary, I was able to hold conversations.) I printed out the e-book, and like the author said, I was able to take only those pages that I needed on any given day.

The author states that this is not your usual travel book, and that is true. That being stated, it had some very helpful information. This was the only book I found, specifically about Bogota. It met my needs.

When I first opened the mail container, I was disappointed with the stark black and white photos within and simple newsy style of the author. After being used to the colorful slick pages of travel epistles such as those of the Eye Witness series, I realized that this is the new generation of self published travel reporting. With the E-Book provided to purchasers which contained online color pictures sorely missing in the soft bound copy, I realized that this may become the genre of the new publishing industry. As a former journalist and world traveler, the prospect presented itself that I, too, can begin publishing accounts of my world travels at least in E-Book format. As TVs Sgt. Friday used to say "Just the facts, M'am."

As a frequent traveler, I'm always looking for books that differ from the usual Lonely Planet and Frommer guides, especially when it comes to individual cities. I really liked this book, especially the e-book with color photos, because it gave me the feel of someone who has actually lived there (and I could put it on my mobile phone). Sure, other guides are chocked full of every tidbit of information that you can imagine, often written by a team of travel writers, but when it comes down to actually visiting a new city, I ask the locals who live there where to go and what to do. This book conveys that. When I first arrive somewhere new, there's 3 things that I need to know right away: transport system, lodgings, and restaurants. The photos and maps were excellent; instead of having to go to a place to "check it out," I was able to see right there if I was interested. Also, I enjoyed Jaime Johnson's friendly writing. I'm anxious to see his upcoming guide on Medellin, as I've spent a lot of time there and hope to pick up some new tips!
