I am not a student in Washington. I had a difficult time finding a book that summarizes the history of Washington. This book provides a good overall story of the state. The organization of the book is not necessarily chronological, rather it is sometimes topical, but it is very easy to follow. I would like to have found more descriptions of everyday living conditions, and easily-located suggestions for further reading on events or people not covered in depth in the text. I found the book to be mostly free of bias, although the bias of optimism about the state's future was not disturbing. The book was a good starting place for me in researching the history of the Evergreen State.

I purchased this book in order to do research for a novel I am currently working on. It was an excellent textbook. I can safely say it was a far more interesting read than the Georgia History text I read way back in high school. Charles Pierce Lewarne is informative without being dry and uses extensive imagery to transport students back in time. This book gave me jumping off places to enable me to continue my research. I would certainly reccomend this textbook for anyone wanting to research Washington history.

This book has a good over view, but there is nothing that sparks the imagination or make you want to learn more about the state. Works well to use to earn the credit needed for Washington State Graduation.

This is still superior to the newer book some districts are buying. At least it more fully discusses subjects and doesn't use photos to fill up the book instead of text.

regardless of the fact that i am a 9th grader in washington state (we are required to take washington state history) and i was forced to read this book and do a power outline for each chapter (power outlines are evil), this book isn't very good... It taught me about washigton state and its history and all that STUFF... but it didn't make it very interesting... iw ould have to say that the way he wrote it is the worst way you could ever write a text book like this.... actually... im just giving it 1 star because i hate the power outlines... if i were assigned to just read the book (my teacher would never give us such mercy, being in hi-cap), it wouldn't be as bad... i can't remember anyhitng from any chapter... ya, i hate the book, alot
