Andre Alice Norton (born Alice Mary Norton, February 17, 1912 – March 17, 2005) was an American writer of science fiction and fantasy, who also wrote works of historical fiction and contemporary fiction. She wrote primarily under the pen name Andre Norton, but also under Andrew North and Allen Weston. She was the first woman to be Gandalf Grand Master of Fantasy, first woman to be SFWA Grand Master, and first inducted by the Science Fiction and Fantasy Hall of Fame.

Andre Norton, a prolific and popular science-fiction and fantasy writer whose central theme was the rite of passage to self-realization undertaken by misfits or displaced outsiders, died yesterday at her home in Murfreesboro, Tenn. March 17, 2005) was an American science fiction and fantasy author (with some works of historical fiction and c.ntemporary fiction) under the noms de plume Andre Norton, Andrew North and Allen Weston. Her parents were Adalbert Freely Norton, who owned a rug company, and Bertha Stemm Norton. During this time, she wrote her first book-Ralestone Luck, which was eventually published as her second novel in 1938, the first being The Prince Commands in 1934.
