A beneficial introduction to network security a useful textbook for network security. There are much better books that provide basic introduction to security (first half of the book) and Network Security (second half of the book). Understanding Cryptography (Paar, Pelzl), Cryptography and Network Security (Stallings) and Applied Cryptography (Schneier) are good alternatives covering same/similar topics. The cryptography part of the book is incomprehensible (when compared to the other better books listed above). The Network Security part of the book is very scant with actual details of how protocols provide security.
