The biggest thing I gleaned from this book is to know that in all our mother/daughter struggles is that there are two sides to every disagreement and to try to understand my daughter has thoughts and feelings on things too. I still plan to put my foot down on several issues but I will try to remember to allow her to voice an opinion as long as she can use respectful words on the matter.

On top of that she grew up very poor and tried most of her life to gain financial security but failed over and over again. I felt bad for the lady, but I understand the need to break away from a controlling mother. Complete detachment is the only way to live independently in some cases.
