Le bonheur d'être singe. This book examines the behaviour, social ation and habitat of the bonobo (Pan paniscus), a close relative to humans and a sibling species of the chimpanzee. I am a Dutch/American biologist, born in the Netherlands in 1948, having lived in the USA since 1981. My passion is primate behavior, and the comparison between primate and human behavior. I pursue the first as a scientist and the second as a writer of popular books. For me, there is nothing more logical than to look at human society through the lens of animal behavior. I have a Ph. D. in biology and ethology (the study of animal behavior) from the University of Utrecht, and now teach Psychology at Emory University, in Atlanta.
Frans De Waal, a primatologist, and Frans Lanting, a wildlife photographer, combine their expertise to make this an extraordinary book. There are only about 100 bonobos in captivity, and although bonobos breed well in captivity, this small number does not offer enough genetic variety to hold any promise, even when individuals are.

He has the mind of a scientist, the heart of a hunter, and the eyes of a poet. He is as persistent,.
