Bonobos, le bonheur d'être singe book. For Frans de Waal, man is not the only moral entity, as he made clear in his last book-Good Natured: The Origins of Right and Wrong in Humans and Other Animals. The author has long been intrigued by chimpanzee politics and mores, and now he has turned his human heart and scientific mind to a species science has tended to celebrate solely for its sex drive.

In the first book to combine and compare data from captivity and the field, Frans de Waal, a world-renowned primatologist, and Frans Lanting, an internationally acclaimed wildlife photographer, present the most up-to-date.

The species's most striking achievement is not tool use or warfare but sensitivity to others.

Le bonheur d'être singe. This book examines the behaviour, social ation and habitat of the bonobo (Pan paniscus), a close relative to humans and a sibling species of the chimpanzee. P. paniscus is entirely restricted to an area south of the Zaire River. Behavioural aspects are compared to chimpanzees, evolutionary implications are also examined.

I am a Dutch/American biologist, born in the Netherlands in 1948, having lived in the USA since 1981. My passion is primate behavior, and the comparison between primate and human behavior. I pursue the first as a scientist and the second as a writer of popular books. For me, there is nothing more logical than to look at human society through the lens of animal behavior. I have a Ph. D. in biology and ethology (the study of animal behavior) from the University of Utrecht, and now teach Psychology at Emory University, in Atlanta.

Frans De Waal, a primatologist, and Frans Lanting, a wildlife photographer, combine their expertise to make this an extraordinary book. There are only about 100 bonobos in captivity, and although bonobos breed well in captivity, this small number does not offer enough genetic variety to hold any promise, even when individuals are.

Franciscus Bernardus Maria "Frans" de Waal (born October 29, 1948) is a Dutch primatologist and ethologist.

With this book, de Waal and Lanting ask us to give bonobos their due-to be considered along side the better known common . As a chronicler of natural history today, Frans Lanting is a singular, extraordinary talent.

With this book, de Waal and Lanting ask us to give bonobos their due-to be considered along side the better known common chimpanzee as close human cousins. How nice to have the peaceable, sexy, bonobo added to the path of human evolution! Bonobos represent the silver lining in our ape heritage. He has the mind of a scientist, the heart of a hunter, and the eyes of a poet. He is as persistent,.
