Froman takes his camera behind the scenes and offers a glimpse into the ballet world that outsiders rarely see: the daily training, the injuries, the last-minute cast changes, and ultimately, the transcendent moments onstage at the end of the day.

New York City Ballet dancer Kyle Froman knows. Open In the Wings and you will see dance from a new perspective, behind the curtain. He has danced with the company for more than a decade, and he understands intimately the daily quest for excellence that propels professional dancers to astonishing achievements. New York City Ballet Must Have. com User, 11 years ago. I wish this book would have received more attention upon its release. Rarely do I write in about purchases I've made, but In The Wings deserves mention. I bought this book for my daughter, a twelve-year old aspiring dancer, but when it arrived in the mail, I found myself completely immersed in it. I don't consider myself a ballet buff.

However, unless you’re a professional ballerina yourself, it’s difficult for the general public to imagine just how much time and effort a show takes to produce. Not anymore, thanks to ballet dancer Kyle Froman who diligently takes us through the life of the corps de ballet in his photography book In The Wings: Behind The Scenes At The New York City Ballet.

Ever wonder what the iconic performers of the New York City Ballet does beyond the scenes? .

Ever wonder what the iconic performers of the New York City Ballet does beyond the scenes? Aside from the usual graceful movements, tedious preparations, there is above all a glimpse at the real portraits of the young men and women who makes the arduous path to the world’s best ballet house. Froman started his journey to the graceful universe of ballet at a very young age. My brother and I started coming up to the School of American Ballet (SAB) for the summers when we were fifteen. Those five week intensives were beyond thrilling.

The New York City Ballet, Shot from the Lens of One of Its Ow. But, when looking at the photographs of dance photographer Kyle Froman, all these misconceptions seem to melt away, replaced instead with a yearning honesty

The New York City Ballet, Shot from the Lens of One of Its Own. Kyle Froman, a former member of the NYCB’s corps de ballet, photographs the city’s best dancers. But, when looking at the photographs of dance photographer Kyle Froman, all these misconceptions seem to melt away, replaced instead with a yearning honesty. Froman’s works both show the tutus, the glitter, and the grandiose glamour, but also the life behind the velvet curtain: a ballerina, moments before showtime, fussing with her hair; a dancer wincing in pain; dancers beautifully juxtaposed with their Lincoln Center surroundings.
