Basil de Sélincourt (1877–1966) was a British essayist and journalist. In 1902 he married the orientalist Beryl de Zoete, but the marriage failed, and in 1908 he married the writer Anne Douglas Sedgwick (1873–1935).

He considers Blake "on his merits," without preliminary attraction or aversion, and offers both a sympathetic and realistic (at times bracingly acid) response to Blake's poetic and illustrative output. I highly recommend this early 20th-century assessment by a sophisticated critic who examines minutely and writes engagingly on his subject.
