Robert Overby, Los Angeles, California. The Estate of Robert Overby is very excited to apart of a forthcoming show at the Eli and Edythe Broad Art Museum at Michigan State University. The exhibition, titled The Transported Man, takes its title from a magic trick whereby a magician on stage disappears through a door and reappears from another one located a few meters away. The works in this exhibition range from figurative to abstract, from 1969-1991. They act as a chronology of Overby’s stylistic practice and his shift back and forth between the two.

Conceived as the beginning of the "public" historical life of Overby's 1970s output, "Parallel" is an introduction to the aesthetic, ideological, and material complexities of Overby's intentionally diverse body of work, consisting of approximately 68 objects, including latex casts of walls, doors, staircases, and building facades, along with "representational" paintings that provoke a contentious dialogue between art and design.
