Frida Kahlo's paintings are incredibly famous, but their meanings can remain enigmatic. Kahlo worked on this portrait during the first years of their marriage. She painted her husband holding a palette and brush in his right hand.

In small, stunningly rendered self–portraits, Mexican artist Frida Kahlo painted herself cracked open, hemorrhaging during a miscarriage, anesthetized on a hospital gurney, and weeping beside her own extracted heart.

Frida Kahlo explores several themes in her oeuvre, from an interest in her ancestry and heritage to her struggles with childlessness and femininity. Her most well-known paintings, however, seem to revolve around 2 major events in her life: her traumatic divorce from fellow artist Diego Rivera, and a nearly fatal accident she survived as a teenager. In this beautiful book, art historian Hayden Herrera brings together numerous paintings and sketches. Still I found myself intriguied by Frida Kahlo who is a Mexican painter and picked this biography on her life. Her life is very extraordinary as I found out when I watched this movie on her starring Salma Hayek. And I loved this book because it told the story of her through her paintings. Its her paintings which make you wanna ask questions, for her paintings are not about pretty flowers or landscape or fishes in the oceans.
