Fleeing violent rebellions in Scotland, Mary looks to Queen Elizabeth of England for sanctuary. This book is a fascinating study of the long and often violent story of royalty in Scotland from Old King Cole to Prince William of Wales. Jean Goodman, advised by Sir Iain Moncreiffe of that Ilk, describe chronologically Scottish palaces, castles and houses which have close royal associations. Pagentry and tradition are mingled with literature and mythology to portray that exciting land of legend and mystery, blood feuds and battles which has preserved its own proud identity, distinct from the rest of Great Britain.
