I bought this book used, and it came in good condition. I got what was labelled as the 'Examination Copy' but it is no different from the student copies of my classmates. It's not that difficult to read, includes real life example and applications of the information that are a great aid. The only real issue I can see is if you have absolutely no interest or prior knowledge of anything related to American Politics.
