Enjoyed reading of her privileged childhood, and again wonder why people with such great lives tended to go into her work of helping sick wounded and troubled folk. She had a calling indeed, and was one of those people whose joy it is to care for others. This was a great book for people who love to read about others life experiences.
Clara Barton is one of my heroes in history and I am enjoying reading about her childhood from her point of view instead of reading what someone else wrote.
Barton's stories are all about growing Two books that also aren't worth mentioning at great length are The Story of My Childhood by Clara Barton and Memories of Childhood's Slavery Days by Annie L. Burton. I listened to these both on Librivox while I was doing Christmas iStore. Ms. Barton wrote her memoirs of childhood as an elderly woman after schoolchildren wrote to her persistently asking her about her younger days. Clara Barton is one of my heroes in history and I am enjoying reading about her childhood from her point of view instead of reading what someone else wrote. I never knew she was a teacher and survived a rather harsh beginning. Very interesting reading.
