Jane Gaunt has loved the arts always. Spirituality and creativity have always seemed synonymous to me. The God part of the human spirit seems to reside in that same creative, awe-struck part of my brain. A Bach violin concerto, a Degas pastel and a desert night view of the Milky Way inspire the same feelings. It begins with the One Spirit who was bored, turned in on itself and went on to create the Universe with all of its amazing diversity. And because we all came from the same Source, we are all destined to return to it when our bodies perish. The book only contains a couple of hundred words, but those words and the pictures accompanying them speak volumes.

The text is a spare 275 words. It begins: Once, long ago, there was One Spirit. It was all that existed. It had always existed. And One Spirit was bored. Always turning on itself. Spinning in an egg-shaped sphere. But bored by sameness. So One Spirit decided to explode. To become other than a single sphere. To differentiate itself, like a growing embryo, into light, energy, matter. Between that beginning and the end -- And all those beings--men, women, babies, cats, dogs, elephants and dragon flies, roses, lilies and redwood trees--took delight in an infinity of playfulness, growth and love – life in all its amazing diversity happens. "One Spirit" contains nearly two dozen full-color, vibrant artistic imaginings of life that are rich in spirit and invite wonder, meditation and joy.
