Five: Miss Gardner does not give explanations as to how things are accomplished in the way of magic, and I was a bit confused by some of it. I know this isn't a Fantasy Novel, but I would've liked more details and explanation as to how Kalliovski did what he did, and how he planned to do what he wanted to do. (trying not to spoil anything :D).
The blade of the guillotine falls on the neck of the King himself, and the spirit of the French Revolution lies in tatters. The Reign of Terror has begun. This is a thrilling tale of secrets, of locks and keys, of murder, revenge and romance. Sally Gardner expands her Magical Kids series with two more delightfully quirky chapter books, packaged together in this fun flip format for twice the magic! Fans of Judy Moody and My Weird School are sure to snatch this one up! Read online.

The Silver Blade book. As before, I enjoy Sally Gardner's style. It is highly visual and vivid
The Silver Blade book. It is highly visual and vivid. Just thinking of her description of Count Kalliovski's catacomb residence gives me the chills because I can picture it all too clearly!)
With her mantle of twisting narrow streets oozing into the countryside, uncontained by city walls, she was so different from Paris that to begin with Sido felt bewildered.
With her mantle of twisting narrow streets oozing into the countryside, uncontained by city walls, she was so different from Paris that to begin with Sido felt bewildered. She was further bewildered. by her aunt and uncle’s genuine love of her. Juliette had tears in her eyes when Sido first entered the drawing room in Queen Square for, as she told her, she looked almost identical to the beloved sister she had lost. That was their only similarity, as Juliette soon discovered, for here was a young woman who possessed not only beauty but understanding that exceeded her years.
