George Wickes (baptised 7 July 1698 – 31 August 1761) was an English silversmith who in 1735 founded the company that was to become Garrard & Co. George Wickes was born in Bury St. Edmunds, England on 7 July 1698, the eighth of ten children born. Attributed to George Wickes (1698-1761). Candlestick circa 1740. Although these candlesticks are unmarked it is likely that they were produced by the goldsmith to Frederick, Prince of Wales, George Wickes. Attributed to George Wickes (1698-1761). They are described in the historic inventories as 'candlesticks for card tables'.
