Expanded polystyrene packaging. A polystyrene yogurt container. The one on the right is used for crafts. Bottom of a vacuum-formed cup; fine details such as the glass and fork food contact materials symbol and the resin identification code symbol are easily molded. Polystyrene is commonly injection molded, vacuum formed, or extruded, while expanded polystyrene is either extruded or molded in a special process. Polystyrene copolymers are also produced; these contain one or more other monomers in addition to styrene. In recent years the expanded polystyrene composites with cellulose and starch have also been produced.

Stratco Expanded Polystyrene Blocks are lightweight, durable, strong and recyclable. Expanded Polystyrene Blocks from Stratco are also ideal for use as insulation in roofing, walling, ceilings, flooring, sheds, garages and patios
Stratco Expanded Polystyrene Blocks are lightweight, durable, strong and recyclable. They are easily cut to shape for use in insulation, building, construction, civil engineering, and landfill geofoam projects. Expanded Polystyrene Blocks from Stratco are also ideal for use as insulation in roofing, walling, ceilings, flooring, sheds, garages and patios. The insulating properties of EPS make it an ideal material for external wall cladding and cold room walls.

Expanded polystyrene is a plastic foam material that has certain desirable properties because of its structure. It is extraordinarily light and buoyant, and a good insulator against heat and sound. It can be used as a building material or a design element, and can be molded into many shapes for a number of household uses as well. In most cases, expanded polystyrene foam is white and is composed of small, interconnected beads. It is made by combining the chemicals ethylene and benzene, to make a compound known as styrene. The styrene is then treated with other chemicals which cause the styrene.
Expanded polystyrene (EPS) is commonly used in a variety of applications because of its features of light weight, good thermal insulation, moisture resistance, durability, acoustic absorption and low thermal conductivity. It has been increasingly used in building constructions as core material of structural insulated panels (SIP).
