Yes a book ban would be an infringement on 1st Amendment protected freedoms. That does not mean that any ban is illegitimate. There are certain types of content that have been ruled to not be protected. There is also the question of who is doing the banning, and what the ban looks like. If a publisher does not think they will make any money on a book, they are free to not publish it. This is not a ban, it’s just business.
