George Brinton Thomas Jr. (January 11, 1914 – October 31, 2006) was a professor of mathematics at MIT. He is best known for being the author of a widely used calculus textbook.
George Brinton Thomas Jr. Born in Boise, Idaho, Thomas' early years were difficult. His father, George Brinton Thomas S. was a bank employee, and his mother, Georgia Fay Thomas (née Goin), died in the 1919 Influenza Epidemic, just eight days before his fifth birthday. His father remarried shortly thereafter, to Lena Steward.
I would like to take Analysis down the road, and I wouldn't want to go from this book to a standard analysis book. But you have to learn the nuts and bolts somewhere, and compared to what I've seen in other large intro texts, this one is at least as good as any and probably a little bit better.
In that amount of time however Thomas has actually died and students have changed in their level of, or lack of, preparation.
George B. Thomas J. s most popular book is Calculus and Analytic Geometry Student Solutions Manual, Multivariable, for Thomas' Calculus and Thomas' Calculus: Early Transcendentals by. George B. Frank R. Giordano.
