This case study is meant to be used in the first unit of the Grade 12 n Course. It is chemical, biological and somewhat sociological in nature. Prior Knowledge: It would be beneficial for students to have already covered the organic chemistry unit of the Grade 12 on Chemistry course, as some questions in the case study (particularly the drug information sheet) require knowledge of basic organic chemistry.

Introduction Lake acidification became an environmental issue of international significance in the late 1960s and early 1970s when Scandinavian scientists claimed that acid rain was the principal reason why fish populations had declined dramatically in Swedish and Norwegian lakes (Odén, 1968; Jensen & Snekvik, 1972; Almer et a. 1974). It enabled the timing and extent of lake acidification to be reconstructed (Charles et a. 1989; Battarbee et a. 1990; Dixit et a. 1992a) and allowed the various competing hypotheses concerning the causes of lake acidification to be evaluated (Battarbee et a. 1985; Battarbee & Charles, 1994; Emmett et a. 1994).

Acid Deposition and Impacts

Acid Deposition and Impacts. Sulphur traditionally been emitted in larger quantities than N Canadian Example (Schindler et a. 2005) NOx doubled 1970-1985, now remains constant 17% decrease from regulations of vehicle emissions and smelters ~balanced by 29% increase from electrical generation.

For example, a case study in medicine may examine a specific patient a doctor treated, and a case study in business might study a particular business's strategy. Generally, a case can be nearly any unit of analysis, including individuals, organizations, events, or actions.
