I have used this book so often for my collection of magazine paper dolls that this book has literally come apart at the seams for the most well-used sections and required me to buy another book. I use the loose pages from the original book to mark which full sheets I have or don't have, which pieces I am still missing, and other notes such as annotating tears or taped repairs. I can have these loose pages on hand when I am looking at online auctions or stores and determining if I need to bid or purchase in hopes of adding to that particular set. Then I use the second copy as a regular guide to look through and look up needed information or to identify an unknown paper doll; I don't write in this book. When I acquire auction, antique store, antique sale, or flea market items, I use the intact book or loose pages to identify and organize the paper dolls in page protectors by date and magazine.

Between research, identification, organization, and auction bidding, I use the pages or book at least several times per week and find it very useful for identification of paper dolls as sometimes I only purchase pieces and have no idea with which paper doll or magazine the piece is part of, for my notes on what I have and don't have, and for organizing the sets that I have purchased.

mary young is the definitive writer as well as collector of vintage paper dolls. her books of paper dolls printed in the 40s and 50s, divided by publishers, are wonderfully informative. this book, subjected by magazines is also very informative and the only reference source i know of. the indexing in all her books is a little problematic but there are not any other references available. mary young's books are labors of love and as a vintage paper doll collector i thank her.
