Great task-based learning book with a lot of supplementary material. Aside from the interesting various projects, I found the section near the end with instructions for various hems and stitches really useful - I'd heard about them before, but wasn't quite sure how they'd be made properly. The content is great. I read it online since its no longer copyrighted. Came to Amazon to buy it but when I received the book, it wasn't legible. It is a reprint of an old book but the online book looked great. The pictures in the reprint purchased here were not readable. Pictures in a sewing book are pretty important so, sadly I returned the book.

Free version is on website Chest of Books under the heading Crafts and then under Needlework. This print of that book (photocopy of original used book) would be quite useful for the most basic of sewn household items and clothing....from how to measure to create your own pattern, to sewing and even some basic crochet.
However, the person who reads this book free or buys this printed copy should realize that where double crochet is used in the pattern, in the US it would actually be single crochet, and etc.
Of course the clothing patterns are the second decade of the 1900s, so they are not current clothing styles, but they could be be used for leisure clothing or period clothing for costumes or reinactment programs. With experience all the patterns could be modified to suit your style.
Much information is offered that is not found in current sewing books. You get the full Home Economics sewing experience here that was not even covered when I had Home Ec in the late 60s early 70s.
