The Mosin-Nagant rifle is not an attractive firearm. It has none of the elegance of, say, the 1903 Springfield, nor is it particularly arresting in appearance. This venerable rifle is, however, robust, dependable, reasonably accurate, and has a long and often fascinating history. Although it was last manufactured almost forty years ago it is still in use as a reserve or militia weapon in a number of countries.

Austrian soldier holds a M95 Steyr Mannlicher rifle during World War I. In the 1880s, the bolt-action rifle was a new-fangled innovative firearm. One of the leaders in design of these guns was a fellow by the name of Ferdinand Ritter von Mannlicher. Mannlicher invented a super-neat strait-pull bolt action that fed from an internal box magazine.
