Albertini writes and documents the pre 1914 European old world diplomacy, great power politics, what the European ruling elites were thinking, saying and doing and details their sensible and paranoid reasoning "side by side" with the sum of their fears.

He was a vigorous opponent of socialism and clericalism, and of Prime Minister Giovanni Giolitti who was willing to compromise with those forces. Albertini's opposition to the Fascist regime forced the owners to fire him in 1925.

About the Author: Luigi Albertini was a major political and cultural figure in Italy preceding the rise of Italian fascism, of which he was an avowed enemy. He died in 1941, after completing his three-volume study.
