Concerning reports, alluded to on page 47 of John Gorham Palfrey's Discourse on the life and character of the Reverend John Thornton Kirkland, that Kirkland's resignation of the presidency of Harvard University had been precipitated by intemperate remarks directed at him by Nathaniel Bowditch. Bowditch's sons object to the allusion, and deny the substance of the reports.
