The Yeti (/ˈjɛti/) or Abominable Snowman is a folkloric ape-like creature taller than an average human, that is said to inhabit the Himalayan mountains. The names Yeti and Meh-Teh are commonly used by the people indigenous to the region, and are part of their history and mythology. Stories of the Yeti first emerged as a facet of Western popular culture in the 19th century. The scientific community has generally regarded the Yeti as a legend, given the lack of evidence of its existence.

Yeti - The Ecology of a Mystery. This is an entertaining book, in the spirit of Darren Naish’s Hunting Monsters (2015) and Loxton & Prothero’s Abominable Science (2013). The author is a British mountaineer and documentary producer who uses the Yeti as his starting point but doesn’t stop there-in fact, only about half the book is devoted to the titular Yeti. The Abominable Snowman, Bigfoot, the Loch Ness Monster, M’kele Mbembe, bunyips and other cryptids are examined and generally found wanting. True believers may not care for Yeti, but the book will be enjoyable for skeptics and those new to cryptozoology.
