As much as I admire Dougal Dixon's work, this book is disappointing in many ways although it gets an A for effort

As much as I admire Dougal Dixon's work, this book is disappointing in many ways although it gets an A for effort. These days, with the computer-generated lifelike images of dinosaurs that are now familiar from the Dorling-Kindersley books and the WALKING WITH DINOSAURS shows and books, if a book is to rely instead on paintings, then they must reach a certain standard. John Sibbick's work for the David Norman and Peter Wellnhofer books would be an example. Unfortunately, the artists in this book contribute rather wan, workmanlike pictures

This book, Dougal Dixon's Dinosaurs, is the absolute best book ever published for children interested in dinosaurs. The book highlights the seven groups, famous paleontologists, and other important facts, such as dig sites and the history of fossil hunting. But, this book is not only for kids. It is so well written by Dougal Dixon and Peter Dodson that even adults will enjoy its wonderful content and learn a lot from it. It is a must for all children, and all adults who are still bitten by the "dinosaur bug".

This book, Dougal Dixon's Dinosaurs, is the absolute best book ever published for children interested in dinosaurs.

My First Book of Dinos. It is presented in a way that will fascinate a young child and be absorbed into their memory.

Dougal Dixon's scientifically informed speculative books are always a. .Dougal Dixon imagines a world where dinosaurs never became extinct and mammals never existed.

Dougal Dixon's scientifically informed speculative books are always a pleasure to read. His fantasy animals leap off the page in realistic paintings. My only complaint with this book is two-fold: The first is that Dixon does not take into consideration that the world now would still be locked in an ice age if fire-wielding creatures like ourselves had not evolved. As with After Man, it's an incredible work of evolutionary biology and fantasy. The creatures are fascinating and well-described (my favourite is the gimp), and they seem quite realistic.

He began his career as a geological consultant, nurturing a special interest in fossils and evolution. As a practical geologist, he was involved in excavating a dinosaur-rich site in Jurassic rocks at Durlston on the Dorset coast in 1987.
