Kids will learn how rivals must work together to achieve a common goal. This is a wonderfully written story that grade school kids (especially boys) will appreciate. I have to say, Frank Cole definitely has a wild imagination. I'm not sure anyone else could come up with a book quite like this one. Once again Hashbrown Winters finds himself in trouble, of his own making mostly, but this time he's on his own. After bragging to Hi Mashimoto that he has a time machine in his tree house, he tries to get his friends to help him build one (at least one that looks real). When his friends try to convince him this is a silly idea, he kicks them out. He even has a fight with his best friend. His efforts to win his friends back literally explode in his face and he ends up in major trouble. Then he discovers what Mashimoto has been up to and he is determined to stop him, leading to some of the most entertaining fight scenes I've ever read. Full of humor and wild exaggeration, I'd recommend this to kids who are a bit off the wall themselves. Although I have to say, Pordunce Elementary would be an interesting place to visit.

I found the first book so quirky and fun that I decided to read the sequel right away. The series is a grade-schooler's dream: crazy situations, funny dialogue, and a little bathroom humor thrown in for good measure. (Pretty tame though, in a day when children's books can be called "Captain Underpants.")

This time around Hashbrown is confronted with a rival student who has just come into a lot of money and is building a treehouse to eclipse his own. (The rival student is the "Mashimoto" from the title, in case you were wondering) The book does of a great job of building on the previous material and adding its own touches. In addition, it is quick and well-structured storytelling that I think even adults can enjoy.

If you haven't already, give this series a read. I here there is a third helping in the works...

I LOVE that this book starts out with a hint of one storyline and then moves on to the main storyline and then SMACK you are given hints to the first storyline and you think "what is happening?" And then you remember..."Oh, yeah." And then it fits all together...oh...so...GOOD!"
This series is AMAZING! They are most definitely on my list of BEST MIDDLE READER FICTION. Right up there with Fablehaven, Far World and Janitors!

This book is HILARIOUS!!! I absolutely loved this cute and funny book. I won it from Goodreads and it took me a while to get to it but I am so glad that I did. I will definitely look into the rest of Hashbrown's adventures!

Loved this book and it's characters. The nicknames are so fun for kids and it definitely has humor kids can understand and enjoy. My 3rd graders loved every word!

My son loved this book and really enjoyed that it kept him guessing on what was happening next. He can’t wait to read the other books in the series.
