This is a sweet story of a family who inherit and run a very superior posting house called The Ladyship. I was intrigued by our heroine and reminded that while we, in the US, see ourselves as "good enough," back then there were very real lines separating the classes. She is hopelessly in love with the Hero who is a Lord. She cannot see the possibilty of a happy ending. The Hero likes her, he doesn't realize he loves her & feels that he should offer for a lady, one he knows & rides forth to meet his doom. There is a little mystery running in the background of the story that caught me totally by surprise- it's all in the name...
What I noticed while reading is that the language is quite authentic. No so very much that it slowed the story, but enough that you know this is another time and place and I appreciated it very much.
A very fun and interesting story with romance and happy endings in every direction.

I love historical story's and this one was nicely to read on the sofa with a cup of tea and being back in the "good old times" gives me the relaxing I sometimes need

This was a nice change of pace for a Regency romance - no simpering young misses or overheated London ballrooms here. The heroine runs a busy inn, despite her gender and her age, and if she bears a terrible unrequited love for a certain gentleman, well! I think we know that it will all work out in the end. There is a secondary (secret!) romance, a bit of road trip adventure toward the end, and a few shocking family secrets to uncover - making this an entertaining romp. The characters are fun, even if some of the side characters are a little under developed. All in all, a very enjoyable read.

I first downloaded this as a sample, and am glad I didn't purchase it. While the first few paragraphs intrigued me, I soon discovered that Ms Kidd is trying to write in the language of the era, but fails. She misuses words (thence, aesthetic...), uses far too many adjectives making for overblown description, misses the use of commas in her phrasing, and all too often finishes what could have been a very nice sentence with a dangling participle. I can forgive poor editing only up to a point but not when it is so distracting, in the first few pages, that I become extremely impatient. Too bad because the premise of the book sounded promising.

There is no way an inkeeper would be acceptable to an aristocractic family especially to a spoiled young woman who had been out. An innkeeper's son would not be able to afford to buy into the army. That's just some of the improbable circumstances in the book.
