Robert Dwyer Joyce (1830-1883) was an Irish poet, writer, and collector of traditional Irish music. He was born in County Limerick, Ireland, where his parents, Garret and Elizabeth (née O'Dwyer) Joyce, lived in the northern foothills of the Ballyhoura Mountains, west of Ballyorgan. Robert had three brothers: Michael, John and Patrick, a noted writer. The family claimed descent from one Seán Mór Seoighe (fl. 1680), a stonemason from Connemara, County Galway.

A leisurely, escapist novel about the countryside and the sea, and about simple unforgotten things. The old house named Cool-na-Grena stood by the Atlantic. There was a waterfall high up, and through the spray you might see into the land of the Rainbow Glass. But there was a haunting of Cool-na-Grena - a door that opened without the touch of a hand, a room that expected the return of a dead man. Lalage came to the house to await the birth of her child. She was running away from unhappiness, as was the dark man who had come there before her.
