Howard Roger Garis (April 25, 1873 – November 6, 1962) was an American author, best known for a series of books that featured the character of Uncle Wiggily Longears, an engaging elderly rabbit. Many of his books were illustrated by Lansing Campbell. Garis and his wife, Lilian Garis, were possibly the most prolific children's authors of the early 20th century.

Howard Garis was an early 20th century American author. He wrote many books for the famous Stratemeyer Syndicate under an assumed name. In 1910 he began writing under his own name. His stories about an old rabbit named Uncle Wiggily began appearing in the Newark News. Uncle Wiggily has a knack for getting out of trouble in amusing ways. He once used an umbrella crammed down an alligator's throat to escape. These fanciful children's stories have delighted generations and still do today.

When I was a little girl my father read Uncle Wiggly stories to me every night, so there is a bit of nostalgia to my lovr of the stories. They are sweet, funny and appealing to my grandaughter as well. Children relate to animal stories and as a grandmother with her share of arthritic aches and pains I love an arthritic rabbit protagonist. I also appreciate a children's book that uses a rich vocabulary and has plots interesting for kids and parents. It's old fashioned, so It won' t be everyne's cup of tea. No super heros, potty jokes or technology. Just the adventures of an arthritic rabbit out to find his fortune.

We had an old uncle wiggily book with beautiful pictures. Unfortunately this one doesn't have any pictures at all and the scenario is different (who he lives with etc). My 4 year old and I were definitely disappointed :(

It's full of sweet, cute stories. I purchased for my great-grandchildren - bought the Uncle Wiggly Game because I played it with my brothers and sisters when I was a chid. It's so great to share with my great-grandkids!

These children's stories are charming and funny and of course completely silly. But if you're old, it doesn't take long before they become old too.

My Dad read Uncle Wiggly stories to my sisters and me every night . We would giggle and laugh at the silly names and events. It was a relaxing way to end the day. I now read the same stories to my granddaughter at bedtime and when we wake up in the morning when we visit.They give us a chuckle all day and the anticipation of Uncle Wiggly's next adventure makes bedtime a little easier. I still have my print copy of Uncle Wiggly that I received as a child. Now I get to share these charming stories with my grandchildren. I learned a lot about manners from these books

Uncle Wiggily was read to us each day while we had rest period by my first grade teacher. It was so exciting and I couldn't wait to see what his next adventure was going to be. I bought both the Kindle and hardback books recently for my grandson!
