This is kind of a review for the entire series of Paris Immortal but first I will review this book. It's a continuation of the first 3 Paris Immortal books and in my humble opinion the best so far. Roit's writing just gets better over time. The story is crisp, engaging, and the characters are more dynamic than ever. Story lines from the first 3 books are wrapped up in this 4th volume but enough is left at the end for the reader to want more...and more...and more!

In all four books the action is shown from 3 different first person points of view but don't let these shifts stop you from reading the series. The shifting back and forth works extremely well as does the shift in how the characters think, speak, and react to what is going on around them. The language of the series itself is very natural and flowing. Roit brings fresh meaning and refreshing newness to the vampire genre. That said, the series is also a breakthrough in the male/male relationship genre. That many of the main characters in Roit's series are gay is both an integral part of the story but told in such a way as to make this seem natural and something rather incidental. The series is not about being gay, or in particular about gay vampires. It's just that the main characters happen to be gay.

For those of you into the male/male relationship genre, there is little explicit material in this series. These books are truly novels with thickening plots and exciting roller-coaster twists in them. The story is about Trey and his being drawn into the scary but sensual world of his two vampire bosses, Gabriel and Michel, even while he deals with his own traumatic past. There is romance, and deep ever-abiding love between characters, but none of the in-your-face soft core that typifies the m/m genre (which in my mind is a wonderful thing because instead of focusing on when the next sex scene is going to be, one can actually focus on the real story which is an intense supernatural story of discovery). There is yummy vampire violence but it is usually off-screen so to speak. One is left to fill in the details with one's imagination, a return to classic story telling in that not all is said so the reader is obliged to engage his or her own mind in providing meaning to the story.

So, S. Roit, keep 'em coming! I can't wait for the next installment of Paris Immortal!

This is a great continuation of the series. I finished it in 4 days. Although we get some closure on a lot of plots, I am left with a whole lot of questions. I am hoping fervently for another book to tie up a few loose ends.

This book jumps between storytellers a lot more than the others, but it does not distract from the over-all telling of the stories. Trey finds himself having to deal with a whole lot when he returns to New York for some "family" business, but he is up to the task, just as Polly said he would be. It's nice to see him get through a very difficult ordeal, only to come out stronger on the other side. Michel and Gabriel get some closure of their own, however not all that they (or I) had hoped for.

I highly recommend this series, but make sure you start at the beginning with "Paris Immortal: A Vampire Tale" or you will be totally lost. :-)
