Playwright Wendy Wasserstein was born in Brooklyn, New York on October 18, 1950. Her early education took place at the exclusive Calhoun School. After attending Mount Holyoke College, Wasserstein completed an . at City College of New York and continued her studies at Yale University's School of Drama. A one-act play not only served as her . thesis but became the basis for her successful full-length work, Uncommon Women and Others. She succeeded in establishing herself commercially as the preeminent chronicler of recent changes in the women's movement.
