When it ends you want to know more. I am taking a break with another book right now, but will likely read Michener's Tales of the South Pacific in the future.

James Michener is the greatest writer of all time, and I don’t say that lightly. I have very rarely found Michener tedious, and both these novels were honest, beautiful writing. Earth shattering writing, even if the stories unfold in extreme slow motion. In a hundred years from today, they will be the classics of our time.
