Since moving to Key West I’ve discovered a slice of key lime pie works just as well. The night I found out Nick Hastings had been murdered less than two miles from where I was tending bar, I ate a whole damn pie. Wes Darling is not your typical mystery novel PI. He doesn't like the work, seems to have a preference for 1) getting . Even with that, Key West Blues is a good break from more cerebral mysteries which, to my taste, are often too full of themselves. Other than that, he is a very likeable guy and Destiny is the woman each man should have in his life at least once. Mike Jastrzebski has written a fine, tongue-in-cheek debut with compelling characters, a romping narrative and just enough absurdity that most readers will not realize how much like Wes they really are. (Oh, myself included.

Key Lime Blues (A Wes Darling Mystery). Elvis was a couple of inches taller than me, and much thinner. His head was shaved and polished, and he had a Van Dyke style beard. Elvis wore a dark blue pinstriped suit, and white gloves. He’d brought along a small cooler filled with beer and was sitting next to it on a blanket with his feet hanging over the side of the dock. As I helped myself to a Miller Lite Elvis took off his jacket, folded it with exaggerated care, and set it on the blanket.
