One by one, each character seemed guilty of the murder (that was "on the agenda"). There was a very clear closure to the book. Refreshing compared to some of the more gruesome novels that I've read.

But Richard Thomas, who portrays Agent Gaad and first found fame as John-Boy in the 1970s family drama The Waltons, doesn’t think anyone’s going to come up him on the street and say, Good night, Frank Gaad. I hope people enjoyed the character, but I don’t think he went deeply into the hearts of America, Mr. Thomas said. He was kind of an enigma. He could be very avuncular one minute and very petty the next. In a recent phone interview, Mr. Thomas, 64, discussed Agent Gaad’s fate as well as his current role as Jimmy Carter in Lawrence Wright’s play Camp David at San Diego’s Old Globe. When did you find out you were going to die on the show?
