This volume contains results of the German CFD initiative MEGADESIGN which combines CFD development activities from DLR, universities and aircraft industry.

Nevertheless, most results are useless from the quality standpoint of view. The flow simulation tools in aerodynamics have reached a level of sophistication such that realistic flow simulations can be done in a reasonable computational time. When already using simulation tools, a natural extension is also to apply numerical shape optimization methods in the design process of an aircraft.
