The Grand Hotel in Paradise, Pennsylvania, employs Amish women to be housekeepers for their guest rooms. Widow Hannah Glick co-owns a horse farm business with her brother-in-law, Joshua. Her hotel wages will help toward hiring a man to work in the stables.

Hannah has three children. Her twin teenage daughters, Lillian and Amanda, work within their community members. On the alternate days that their mamm is away from home, Lillian cares for their younger brother, Andrew.

Hannah unexpectedly begins talking with an English guest at the hotel who has lost his wife and teenage daughter to an accident. She finds herself at ease sharing her thoughts about loss and life changes she has not voiced to anyone. She is reminded by an older coworker about talking with guests at the hotel. And, by her family...

Families were full of complicated, intertwined relationships that somehow translated into love and support.

Each character is fully developed and although Hannah is the main character, her family and those around them have a complete voice. Do we see our intentions as others see them? Matters of the heart being justified or are others warily looking on?

Conversational, author Amy Clipston reveals each character's heart with their thoughts and interactions together. Hannah has a good listening friend in Ruth, who allows her to speak out loud to hear and process her thoughts. Unsure how it is going to turn out until arriving at the last page will keep you engaged in this first story in this new series.

Amy Clipston does a great job with this introductory book in her new series The Heats of the Lancaster Grand Hotel. In A Hopeful Heart, Hannah finds herself wondering what to do after the untimely death of her husband and works at a local bed and breakfast. Englisher Trey Peterson is a guest and quickly develops feeling for Hannah, his housekeeper as they bond over the loss of a spouse. Joshua Glick, Hannah’s brother-in-law, has always been in love with Hannah and wants to take care of her and her children.

Hannah struggles with the fact that she doesn’t face any feelings for Joshua, but she is worried that she is starting to develop some for Trey as they become support for each other over the common bond they share.

Amy did a terrific job with character development and it was easy to form a bond with each one. Hannah’s struggles were real to the reader and I felt her struggles as she was tugged between the English and Amish world. I love that Amy addressed decisions that you do not see too often in Amish novels. She shows us the perspectives of not only Hannah but her daughters and how they feel Hannah’s decision would affect them all.

I enjoyed the first book of this series and will finish this series to see what is in store for the Glick family.

I enjoyed this easy reading Amish story about grown-ups. The characters face challenges and pain while experiencing joy in their coCloseup of the eye of a brown horse. Vertical shot.mmunity. Hannah, born into the Amish community, is a widow with three children, teen-age twins and a younger son. As she continues with an interest in the business her late husband loved and partnered in with his brother on the family farm, she has branched out to have a job on the housekeeping staff at a local hotel/motel. Hannah's son loves the horses and has one that he is especially attached to.

That job which gives her contact with people and a lot of pleasure therein, is the catalyst for Hannah to meet Trey, a recent widower who had plans with his wife to move to this Pennsylvania community and have a bed and breakfast. Tragically, before they were able to do that, his wife and daughter were killed in a traffic accident.

Taking this book up a step on the romance stairs, the author adds some romantic, family, philosophic and cultural drama. Hannah's brother-in-law deals with his feelings for Hannah because he had admired her before she married his more outgoing brother. He would like to be the man in her life now, continue the farming and horse business with her and her children. The Amish community and one of her daughters sees this as the perfect solution for her future.

A woman determined to live her own life, Hannah knows the horse farm was her late husband's dream and she really does like working with people. Trey rings some emotional bells with her that run counter to her upbringing and her culture and the opinions of others.
