As always, Father Rohr is insightful, and truth be told, he writes best when someone (as here) co-authors the work. This is a splendid overview of the New Testament, though I will say I learned more from his Old Testament book. Maybe for some of us the NT is simply too familiar territory. A whole chapter on Mary is probably too much, but then I don't come from the RC tradition.

I chose this book based, partially, on the readings in a book of meditations for each day. Several were quoted from The Great Themes of Scripture: New Testament, so I want to have the complete book around for reference. This author has a style that reaches the ordinary person, as opposed to some "ivory tower" approach learned in classes. I recommend Father Rohr's writings to anyone anxious to see a community-based approach to the Bible.

This book helped me to tie the two Testaments together in an understanding as to why are both called the Word of God.

His gift for interpeting the scriptures is wonderful. We can go astray if we read just one verse or one book, but can really understand if we follow the themes throughout the Bible.
