Bath, Foreword to Vine's Expository Dictionary of New Testament Words. As a book the New Testament stands alone and supreme, simple in its profoundness, and profound in its simplicity. It is the record, in twenty-seven Writings, of the origin, nature and progress of Christianity, and in the quality of its influence it has done more for the world than all other books together. A good illustration of this is found on pages 203-207, under COME, and its related thoughts (.

Vine's Complete Expository Dictionary of Old and New Testament Words: With Topical Index. 1418501514 (ISBN13: 9781418501518). We read the Bible in English, but understanding the nuances of the words chosen by one translation (or another) helps the student better comprehend the original intended meaning of the verse of scripture.

And that's with reference to the Greek, which is the fuller part of the book. At least the Greek section can give you ideas. It's not a bad book; it's just that you'll want a lot more.

Additianal contributions by Merrill F. Unger and William White, Jr make this expository dictionary second to none. Whilst not covering every word in Scripture, it doesn't miss out many and what it does mention are covered in depth. I find it much more informative than Strong's or Young's concordances. And that's with reference to the Greek, which is the fuller part of the book.

An Expository Dictionary of New Testament Words was written by William Edwy Vine and published as a four volume set in 1940. In common usage, the title is often shortened to Vine's Expository Dictionary, or simply Vine's. It is a cross-reference from key English words in the Authorized King James Version to the original words in the Greek texts of the New Testament.
